Pizza Party & Dough Recipe

Hosting a pizza party is a great way to entertain a small group and get everyone involved in preparing their own meal.  Most of the prep can be done in advanced and the most difficult task is preparing the dough.  However, the dough recipe I use is fast and easy.  So there’s no reason you can’t make your own pizza bar with toppings of your choice and heat up your pizza oven, conventional oven or grill.

Here’s how to make the dough! This recipe makes enough dough for two large pizzas.

Pizza-dough

Ingredients:

3 1/2 to 4 cups of bread flour (You can also use all-purpose flour or whole wheat flour. The texture will be different depending on the flour.  Bread flour is more crisp, all-purpose is chewier and whole wheat more dense.)
1 tsp. of granulated sugar
1 envelope instant dry yeast (make sure it’s Instant.)
2 tsp. kosher salt
1 1/2 cups of water, heated to 110 degrees
2 Tbsp. of olive oil
Extra olive oil to coat the bowls.

Using a stand mixer, combine flour, sugar, yeast and salt.  Keep the mixer running and add the warm water and 2 Tbsp. of olive oil.  Mix until the dough forms a ball.  If the dough is still sticky add a little more flour.

Grease a large mixing bowl with the extra olive oil and place the dough in the bowl.  Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place in a warm area to rise for about one hour.

After the dough has doubled in size knead with a bit of flour and separate into two equal portions.  Let rest for 10 minutes.  Then you’re ready to flatten, roll or toss your dough and place on a corn-meal coated pizza peel or baking stone.

Bake your pizza as needed, depending on the type of oven or grill you are using. A traditional pizza oven at 500 degrees will cook these yummy hand-tossed pizzas in about 3 to 4 minutes. We often rotate the pizza half-way through.

Pair your pizza bar with a delicious salad and sangria and you’ve got a fabulous party! Personally, I love the Spinach Chop House Salad with Buttermilk Pesto dressing or keep it simple with your favorite caesar salad.
