A Game Day Celebration

In the Fall, when the air turns crisp, it’s time to toss the pigskin and throw down tailgate fare in hopes of a game day celebration.  This is one of my husband’s favorite times of the year; the entire season is practically a state holiday. I always draw a little inspiration from the die-hard fans that I call friends and they support various teams with wild abandonment. I love those rowdy, face-painted folks that somehow dream-up delicious concoctions, most of which resemble their favorite team colors.  I thought you might enjoy a little inspiration, too (even if your favorite team sports Orange, Blue, Navy or even burnt orange… wow that last one was a little tough.)

This yummy cake was created by Gypsy Cakes.  It tasted even better than it looked.  I still marvel that she made those lines so absolutely perfect.

SONY DSCYou might notice that we infused a crimson and cream color theme throughout  the buffet.  I love the red and white popcorn and helmet serving bowl.  Even the delectable strawberries on the bed of cream carry the theme.  I love the crimson and cream daises, too.

The menu was balanced with healthy and not-so-healthy options.  Here’s what we served:

Beef Tortilla Soup (made extra thick by adding an additional 1lb. of ground beef)

Grilled Hot Dogs and Brats

Vegetable and Fruit Tray

Spinach Artichoke Dip

7-Layer Dip

Wedge Salad Skewers

Colored- Candied Popcorn

and of course, cake….

This was an early game so Blood Mary’s and Mimosa’s were on the menu.
